AFC Wimbledon are a young team, celebrating its 22nd year of existence in 2024.
The Wimbledon FC fans were strongly opposed to the move, as they felt the move took them too far from Wimbledon. As a result, the disgruntled fans decided to recreate their club from scratch.
What started as a small community-based club that played in the Combined Counties League has grown quickly into a proper Football League side, who currently compete in League Two.
AFC Wimbledon moved into their home of Plough Lane in November 2020. Plough Lane has a capacity of 9,215 and is a recreation of the club’s former stadium, also named Plough Lane, which was used as Wimbledon FC’s home from 1912 to 1991.
While the historical name of the stadium is Plough Lane, it also holds the name the Cherry Red Records Stadium, for sponsorship reasons. They also share the stadium with the rugby league side London Broncos.
They are coming in from a relatively strong position to the 2024/25 season, having finished last year halfway up the table and likely to continue to climb.
